INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

We have an expansive instrumental music program and offer one on one or individual sessions in most instruments.  Woodwind, percussion, brass, strings, piano and voice lessons are all available from highly qualified tutors.

Music is an integral part of the culture of Burdekin Christian College.  The College currently has both a Senior Choir and a Junior Choir.  Both have been extremely successful in competitions and eisteddfods they have entered as they reflect the beauty and joy of music.

Burdekin Christian College prides itself on its annual musical productions.  All College students are expected to contribute to the musical production either through a role on stage or assisting with backstage lighting and sound.  The College musical is a highlight of the year and a singing and dancing extravaganza not to be missed.

INTER-SCHOOL SPORT

Senior and Upper Junior School students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of inter-school sport competitions throughout the year.  Sports include basketball, netball and touch football.  Students meeting strict criteria may be selected for Districts and Regional Sports competition.

This club encourages participation by all enthusiastic soccer players.  The program develops fitness and basic skills within all players.

SPORTING SCHOOLS PROGRAM

Burdekin Christian College takes part in the Sporting Schools Program which funds ‘taster’ lessons in a wide variety of sports to engage students.  Sports provided under this program include basketball, touch football, tennis and soccer.

GARDENING CLUB

These friends of the earth plant, tender and harvest plants for the College.   As well eating delicious produce, they also take on different larger scale projects around the school. Their current project is a Bush Tucker Garden to highlight our NAIDOC week mural.

A variety of mediums including paint, mixed media and charcoal are employed to create beautiful art pieces for students to take home.

This club is for students who like the limelight!  Over lunch breaks they refine their acting, speaking and recitation skills and practice for upcoming performance competitions.

Get your groove on at Dance Club!  Our newly introduced Dance Club teaches a variety of dance skills from classical ballet to modern hip hop.

ROBOTICS

Burdekin Christian College participates in Robocup and First Lego League.  As well as class development of coding skills students may participate in the Robotics Club to further expand their STEM skills.

DRONES + AERONAUTICS

As a school committed to 21st century learning opportunities we run a drone and aeronautic club at lunchtime.  Students learn how to fly recharge and fly drones including those able to take photographs and film the local surroundings.

All players from social to serious players are welcome to attend weekly games in the library and further their strategic thinking skills.

CRAFT CLUB

Craft Club is a social, non-competitive club that gives students the opportunity to try different craft skills such as paperwork, sewing, beading and glueing.  Each week students create a different masterpiece they can take home.

DRAMA

The College participates in the Burdekin Drama Festival with the other three high schools in the District.  This is a wonderful event which encourages students to work behind the scenes and on stage to home their craft.

LEADERSHIP

All students are leaders.  To support this philosophy students in both Junior and Senior School are encouraged to attend a variety of leadership talks and workshops throughout the year.

CAMPS

The College has a solidly established Camp Program that encourages students to develop independence, team skills and resilience.  Attending camp can be transformative as they learn to face challenges in a safe and supportive environment.  This year the years 4-6 students attend Paluma and participate in bush and water activities.  Our students in years 7-10 are visiting Brisbane and Gold Coast in 2019 for a taste of city activities.  To ensure we develop the ability to ‘give back’ in our students, our year 11 and 12 students are flying to Fiji to help local schools and community groups.

Throughout the year students are given the opportunity to showcase their science talents by participating in Mathematics contests, at both nationwide and regional levels.

This club is for those interested in woodworking, making, crafting and design. Each term students undertake a new project in our Design and Technology Sheds.

Connect Club welcomes all students who wish to delve deeper into the Bible.  A great fellowship is forged over prayer and discussion.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Public speaking give students the opportunity to develop confidence and communication skills.  Our College participates in public speaking competitions such as Rostrum and provides mentoring and tutoring in these skills.

READERS CUP

Readers Cup is the leading competition to encourage reading and comprehension skills.   Each year our College sends a Senior and Junior team to compete in Townsville.

EISTEDDFORDS AND FESTIVAL OF ARTS

The College participates in many local Eisteddfods and Festivals of Arts in the Burdekin region giving students an opportunity to compete against other schools.  Choral speaking, choir, speech and drama, poetic performances, photography and art entries have won awards.

BURDEKIN WATER FESTIVAL

Every year the College engages with the local Burdekin community through the Burdekin Water Festival.  The College runs a colourful thematic float up the main street and our students nominate to be a Water Festival Junior Ambassador.

UNDER 8S DAY

Students engage in activities to embrace the joy of early childhood through Under 8s Day.  Hands on activities allow our littlest learners to develop social, communication and fine motor skills.
