MIDDLE
Years (Year 7 - 10)
TEACHING AND LEARNING
Research shows students in this age group experience physical, emotional and social changes so our teachers recognise this and provide a program that supports the whole child. Every child is appointed a Care Teacher who becomes a point of reference that can speak to about any difficulties or concerns they may have. The Care Teacher also assists the students through our Study Skills program that grows organisational and assessment skills. Students also participate in Bella Rae (girls) or Men of Honour (boys) to develop their relationship skills, personal grooming and resilience. Students in Years 9 and 10 are expected to engage in our Student Futures program which showcases post-school options available through work experience, visiting speakers, university visits and TAFE activities.
During their learning journey at Burdekin Christian College we encourage students to try new subjects and activities so they can discover their passions and talents in life. We therefore provide a wide range of ‘taster’ subjects during the Middle Year Program. Literacy and Numeracy are also highly valued so Mathematics and English are given a higher time allocation to maximise development in these essential subjects. Students are taught critical thinking skills and cognitive verbs to help engage with higher level thinking tasks. We understand all our students have different learning styles and cater for them using differentiated learning activities that incorporate engaging hands on approaches, visual stimuli and real life simulations.
HOMEWORK
Students are expected to complete 3 hours homework each week night. Homework consists of set work, revision study and assignment writing and research. All homework must be recorded in each student’s diary before leaving class.

CARE APPROACH
Our teachers plan lessons around a Christian worldview underpinned by
our CARE approach:
COURTESY
I respect others. “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7:12)
ATTITUDE
I can do it. “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.”
Philippians 4:13)
RESILIENCE
I can overcome. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified
because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave
you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
EXCELLENCE
I do my best. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for
the Lord, not for men.” (Colossians 3:23)
"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."
- John 1:4
